Film summary
The neglected and estranged daughters of once respected film director Gustav have no choice but to deal with him after their mother’s death, when they realise his name is still on the deeds of their much-loved family home. Their father has written an autobiographical screenplay about his own mother that he hopes will be his comeback film. He tries to cast his actress daughter Nora but she refuses, so he chooses an eager young Hollywood actress – this sets the stage for some very complex family dynamics set against the backdrop of the fading family home, an appropriate metaphor for the worn-out bond between father and daughters.

What the critics said
“This layered family-centric drama has an ability to find fresh angles on sentiments you’d think cinema would have exhausted by now.”
Peter Debruge, Variety
“Like life, it is both sad and side-splittingly funny, strange and imperfect. In its precise understanding of modern life and its persistent questioning of it, it’s everything contemporary cinema ought to be.”
Radhika Seth, British Vogue
